Trauma is the leading cause of death at ages below 40 in Taiwan, primarily affecting young and productive citizens. Trauma is known to involve the family, society, and nation, beside the person injured. Therefore it is a very important public health problem for us to resolve. The trauma registry, a basic and key part of viable trauma system, should be adopted for research, education, and performance improvement. Trauma prevention, pre-hospital EMS, trauma resusicitation, quality improvement in trauma care, public and health care provider education, health insurance, community development, legislative efforts, and research are all affected by conclusions drawn from the trauma registry. An effort to standardize data collection and interpretation is clearly of paramount importance and Then trauma registry can be used for research with a reasonable assurance of validity and reliability. We hope the use of trauma registry is prevalent throughout the country, meanwhile, a greater emphasis needs to be focused on ensuring the standardization and accuracy of this valuable information. Our recommendations include the establishment of standardized definitions and auditing procedures and national certifications for data entry personnel A uniform trauma registry database with standardized data collection is also among the goals of Formosa Association for the Surgery of Trauma in the future. |
