This study used the method of educational hermeneutics to investigate C. A. Bowers's ecological culture pedagogy. The research purposes included to analyze the thought origins of Bowers's ecological culture pedagogy; to investigate the main contents of Bowers's ecological culture pedagogy; to evaluate the pros and cons of Bowers's ecological culture pedagogy; to interpret important revelations of Bowers's ecological culture pedagogy. First of all, the thought origins of Bowers's ecological cultural pedagogy included Leopold's land ethics, the ecological wisdom of Bateson and the influence of Burke's conservatism. Secondly, the main contents of Bowers's ecological culture pedagogy included conservatism, the basis of ecological justice education, curriculum and practice.Thirdly, the advantages of Bowers's ecological culture pedagogy included the re-examination of the new thinking of rationalism through ecological culture education, rethinking the possibility of cultural shaping, re-exploring the new situation of science and technology, re-establishing ecology The new thinking of eco-justice and the re-examination of the new problems of the education system. The disadventages included that the difinition scope of culture was excessively narrow, introduction of technology in instruction was double-headed and the ecological wisdom had consistency. Finally, the important revelations of Bowers's ecological culture pedagogy included the curriculum and instruction of ecological (environment) education. Although Bowers ecological culture pedagogy has some problems, it can still be used as a reference for improvement of the curriculum and instruction of environmental education in our country, it is worth our attention. |
