In October 2017, Taiwan Fair Trade Commission imposed a record fine of NT$23.4bn on Qualcomm Incorporated, accusing it of abusing its dominant market position over certain key mobile phone chips and violating the antitrust rules. This article introduces briefly the debats over enforcement of standard essential patent (SEP), the relevant antitrust issues, and the interaction between competition law and intellectual property rights. Also, a commentary on this controversial antitrust in Taiwan is covered. |
