Self-efficacy has been well studied in sport contexts since Bandura (1977) first published the construct of self-efficacy. Mass of articles has been proven the relationships between self-efficacy and sport performance. However, athletes are never alone, instead, athlete would form a close interaction dyads relationships with significant others. The ability appraisal within relationship is also an important consideration in the development of one’s self-efficacy beliefs. Lent and Lopez (2002) proposed the tripartite efficacy beliefs model; the core construct of this model is to depict efficacy beliefs underlie in an interacted relationship. Recent years, sport psychologists began to explore related researches about tripartite efficacy. Therefore, current article started from the introduction of the definition and measurement, and then reviewed the results from previous empirical researches. Lastly, the article also recommended the tripartite efficacy beliefs within the field of sport and exercise psychology through the summary of the effects of tripartite efficacy on individual’s cognitions, affects, and behaviors.
