This study investigated and analyzed the quality of life of primary caregivers of children with visual impairments through qualitative research methods. The research process was divided into two major steps, the focus group interview and the in-depth interview, which put great emphasis on credibility, dependability, confirmability, and transferability for the rigorousness of data analysis. There were 6 main categories and 29 subcategories emerging from the first research outcome, which could be further condensed into two core factors, “conditions of children (3 items)” and “supports from surroundings (4 items).” They significantly influenced the quality of life of primary caregivers of children with visual impairments. In addition, the factor of time limitation derived from the two core factors aforementioned also did severe damage to the quality of life of these caregivers in such aspects as insufficient rest time, failure to assume family responsibilities, limitation of job choices, unsatisfactory income, and so on. In the final section, 4 suggestions were proposed to address these problems. |
