The objective of this study was to develop a teacher disposition scale for use in the elementary school teacher education program to screen the prospective students to enter the program.Totally 43 items were produced. The resulting instrument was named the Teacher Disposition Scale (TDS). Results of the factor analysis indicated that there were five interpretable factors in the TDS. The five factors were labeled: Factor I—respecting oneself and others, Factor II—dealing with things maturely, Factor III—participating actively and with education profession, Factor IV--self learning, and Factor V—being punctual and responsible. Cronbach's a for the total scale was .930 and Cronbach's a for each subscale was .865, .844, .830, .786, .798 and five factors explained 47.55% of total variation. Finally, the TDS was then administered to 529 freshmen (148male, 381 female) in a teachers college, located in Taiwan central geographical areas. Cronbach's a for the total scale was .894Overall, the findings indicated that the TDS is acceptably reliable for assessing the teacher disposition of prospective students to enter the teacher program in Taiwan. |
