R&D and Service Accomplishments(2019)

Since her inauguration in the first quarter of 2019, R/V LEGEND has completed 22 exploratory missions as far north as Okinawa and as far south as Taiping Island, combining for a total of 192 days. She returned from her first research voyage in April and conducted a cross-national experiment in the waters surrounding Okinawa in June. In July, an onboard scientific team deployed a data buoy near Pengjia Islet for the Central Weather Bureau. The next month, she was docked at Taiping Island for the first time and acquired observation data of north-south atmospheric cross-sections over the South China Sea. In October, she was equipped with a deep-sea remotely operated underwater vehicle that retrieved the flight data recorder from a crashed fighter jet.
