Oriental medicine had been formally imported from China to Taiwan during the Taiwan of Qing dynasty's era (1684-1895 A.D.). In 1822, the Imperial Medical Academy of Qing dynasty abolished acupuncture and moxibustion, resulting in a decline of the arts in the late Qing dynasty's era. Until the Japanese governance of Taiwan (1895- 1945 A.D.), the Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion were introduced to Taiwan and subsequently gained its popularity. The present historical note describes this not wellknown portion in Taiwanese history of medicine. |
