Taking place in Sangzhi, Hunan Province in 1916, two kitchen knives rebellion (兩把菜刀鬧革命) is a classic story in the CPC's revolutionary history. He Long (賀龍) and his companions attacked the Salt Tax Bureau and snatched guns. As He was promoted to the senior general of the CPC, this story was widely circulated. This paper adopts the analytical approach of "History in Three Keys" brought up by Paul Cohen, intending to explore the three aspects of events, experiences, and myths behind this incident of snatching guns. After recapitulating this incident, this paper examines the participants' experiences, which helps to illustrate the three forces behind the story: family, secret society and revolutionary party, and how they jointly contribute to the incident. Finally, this paper explores some versions of the changes in this story in different historical periods. In addition to reviewing the writing patterns, this paper also analyzes the formation of this myth. |
