The cultural heritage community of libraries, archives, and museums have been engaged in the digitization projects for decades and increasingly raised concerns about quality and usability of digitized images for preservation. For large-scale digitization projects, quality control is an important part to verify the quality, accuracy, and consistency of digital images. Though there are many different quality control strategies for digitization, it is generally recommended that standard processes, pre-set guidelines, and efficient workflows. One specific recommended strategy is to facilitate workflow utilizing the computer programs and software tools to assist in the performance of quality control. With the aid of software solutions, digitization projects could be managed effectively, and the workflow could be conducted efficiently. Against this background, this article presents a case study of Digitization Management System developed at the Fu Ssu-nien Library which is affiliated to Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica. In this article, we mainly describe the planning, design, construction and implementation of the system, and conclude with some implications for practice. |
