Among the Taiwanese textbooks for Japanese people that have been published in Japanese occupation era, especially those of the first period, there are confusions and contradictions in their contents and many non -Taiwanese elements were contained in them. Not only did these textbooks contain Japanese elements, but even Mandarin elements were significantly observed. Thu s, in order to make reference to characteristics and values of these textbooks, it is necessary to examine who edited them and what processes these editions went through. However, no studies have been found so far from this point of view. This paper makes reference to two such textbooks of such age. On the basis of fragmental pieces of data gathered by the author, this paper first clarifies the process of how the interpretation officer of Hishijima Konseishitai, was employed and the interpretation activitie s by two textbook editors, Matano Yasukazu and Iwanaga Rokuichi. Secondly, images of the two interpreters which come out of the above clarification are described, the relationship between their images and the contents of these textbooks are analyzed and characteristics and values of these textbooks are reconsidered in this paper. |
