After Naoyoshi Ogawa laid a foundation, the research of Southern-Min dialect has been improved in Taiwan for development of hundred years. Especially in last decades, it has been improved quite a lot by obtaining excellent results, no matter on profundity and extent. However, the discussion in this paper is the retrospection of Southern-min dialect research of postwar Taiwan and the analysis of tendency in future development. Although Southern-Min dialect research of postwar Taiwan was affected greatly by Chinese scholars in Taiwan, the development of Southern-Min dialect research of Taiwan is different from China by the diversity of science passing down and research purpose which made Southern-Min dialect research of Taiwan gain uniqueness. Overall, Southern-Min research in China based on political and social circumstances. Thus, it valued the records of each place and emphasized the connection with Chinese. Also the purport is based on the research of historical comparative linguistics. Besides, it is limited by social circumstances, so the investigated areas are only countries, and take the sounds of city areas as standards. Therefore, it only presents the initial linguistic phenomenon and characteristics, but the internal differences of each country can't be revealed. On the opposite, comparing Southern-Min research of China with Southern-Min research of Taiwan, Southern-Min dialect research in Taiwan is much more diverse and microscopic, and gained great results, no matter on traditional dialectology, or on geographical linguistics. In addition, the investigated dialect areas are not only towns, but also villages. In recent years, the technique of geographical linguistics has been combined with Geographic Information System, GPS, and satellite photographs. And it has been more scientifically, and accurately, developed with computer technology. On the other hand, the geolinguistic research based on social linguistics also have gotten great achievement in Taiwan recently. |
