The study was conducted to investigate the effects of imposing constraints on a subject's freedom to categorize words on free recall. The results confirmed the previous finding that subjective organization of independent bits of information facilitated recall of that information. These facilitative effects were similar whether the stimulus words contained salient categories or were randomly selected. Furthermore, the correlation analysis indicated that verbal creativity as indexed by the Remote Associates test (RAT) played different roles in different learning task. |
