This paper elucidates the origins of Sa Mengwu's departure in 1948 against the backdrop of the Law School unrest and the political situation in Canton. While relatively stable under the authority of Chang Fa-Kuei, Cantonese politics rapidly descended into chaos after 1946, a development which also impacted academic circles and is reflected in the dismissal of Mei Gongbin by the ministry of education. Such intrinsic and extrinsic factors exacerbated factional struggles, leading Sa to capitulate despite his successful quelling of 1947's upheaval. |
