Landscape design to improve and beatify the environment is increasingly important against the backdrop of rapid urbanization. There have been many innovations in landscape ecology over recent years utilizing green materials and eco-technology in order to protect flora and fauna. Meanwhile, landscape design is required to showcase a new and modern modality in terms of spatial arrangement and aesthetic expression. As a unique composition of urban design, university campuses are the perfect venue to demonstrate the ecology in a city. With the progression of the “Green University” initiative, the sustainability of campus ecosystem is also attracting attention from stakeholders. This paper seeks to systematically generalize and analyze the theories in eco-aesthetics, and explores the landscape design of university campuses in the context of these theories. Feedback from the interviews with experts from different domains form the basis for the construction of dimensions and elements for design strategies of university campus landscape and eco-aesthetics, as well as the weightings for design strategies and indicators. The purpose is to provide a template for the strategic thinking behind eco-aesthetics and landscape design for university campuses. It is hoped that the research findings serve as a reference for the furthering of the “Green University” initiative in terms of eco-aesthetics and designs. |
