We investigated species and abundance of raptors along Suhua Highway from March 2012 to February 2013. Eleven species of diurnal raptors and two nocturnal raptors were recorded from nine study sites along Suhua Highway. There were four resident species, specifically the Indian Black Eagle (”Ictinaetus malayensis”), Crested Serpent Eagle (”Spilornis cheela hoya”), Crested Goshawk (”Accipiter trivirgatus”) and Besra (”A. virgatus fuscipectus”); and six migration species, specifically the Chinese Goshawk (”Accipiter soloensis”), Grey-faced Buzzard (”Butastur indicus”), Common Buzzard (”Buteo buteo”), Osprey (”Pandion haliaetus”), Peregrine Falcon (”Falco peregrinus”) and Common Kestrel (”F. tinnunculus”). The Oriental Honey Buzzard (”Pernis ptilohynchus”) may be considered as either a resident species or migration species. The two nocturnal raptors are both resident species, specifically the Collared Scops Owl (”Otus lettia”) and Mountain Scops Owl (”O. spilocephalus”). The Crested Serpent Eagle is the most common diurnal raptor, as it was recorded in all study sites. The diversity of raptor at Guanyin site and Hanben site were the highest among all of the sites. In terms of seasonal changes, raptor diversity was high during autumn. |
