評論兩種兒童百科全書

On Two Popular Children’s Encyclopedias

臺灣的公共圖書館兒童區和國小圖書館，大都收藏了兒童百科全書，但相關的研究卻稀少，使用者不容易得知其內容的優劣。本文針對其中由國人編撰、有規模而流通甚廣的兩種，指出其特色與優缺點，以供教師和家長參考。其一是臺灣省教育廳於1978-1986編印出版《中華兒童百科全書》13冊（第14冊為索引），贈送小四至國一每班一套。其二是嘉義明山書局於1984-1987陸續出版的《中國兒童大百科全書》36冊，至1994年續編補遺出齊38-42冊，37、43冊為索引。教師可藉此引起學生興趣，但這兩套書有不少缺點，應進一步查閱更嚴謹的著作，不宜直接引為典據。

Children’s encyclopedias are basic collections of many public libraries and school libraries;however, there are few researcheson it. This research reviewedthe two most popular children’s encyclopedias which were originally edited and published in Taiwan. One is Chinese Children’s Encyclopedia, published from1978 to 1986 by the Taiwan Municipal Government, and the other is Great Children’s Encyclopedia of China,published from1984 to 1994 by Ming San Publisher. The above-mentioned two complete sets of the encyclopedias, totaling54 books,werereviewed with the purpose of helpingteachers and parents to choose good books for their children. There are problems in these two setsof encyclopedias;therefore, I suggest usingthese books only for arousingstudents’interest, not for academic purposes.
