Denmark´s biggest health project for school-children ´Active All Year Round- School Health Week´ has around 375.000 participating school-children across 80% of all schools in Denmark. Two out of three Danish school-children participate. By participating in the project Danish schools focus on health for a 3 week targeted plan, however schools continue to feel the benefit over a longer period as teachers can use the provided teaching material for the whole school year. Therefor the project makes a significant contribution when it comes to children´s´ health in Denmark. Around 30% of Danish school-children are inactive which means that there is a risk of added pressure on the Danish welfare system, making a focus on health vital for school-children in Denmark. Danish school children have a lowering rate of fitness, a rising BMI and increase in the diagnosis of diabetes. These are some of the primary reasons why the University College of Southern Denmark offer the project Active All Year Round to Danish schools. |
