The Olympic Agenda 2020 was introduced at the 127th IOC Session in Monaco in 2014 which give a vision and a clear strategic roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement. Agenda 2020 addresses the issue of bidding process, sustainability, gender equality, good governance, blending sport and culture, media and sponsorship, engaging with communities, and the protection of clean athletes. But what are the implications of Agenda 2020 for Olympic education? The purpose of this article is threefold. First, this article describes a brief history of Olympic education as a concept and explains a useful framework proposed by Naul (2008) in understanding types of approach to Olympic education. Second, it highlights the changing nature of Olympic values and Olympism. Third, the article discusses how these shifts in values imply changes relevant to Olympic education in the context of Agenda 2020. |
