This study examined 63 food companies dealing with Antrodia cinnamomea in areas including the sources of raw materials, product labeling and their conformity to the Good Hygiene Practice (GHP). The results showed that 2 of the food businesses (3%) used raw materials that had not gone through the proper approval process. 51 out of 103 products of Antrodia cinnamomea (49.5%) failed to comply with the product labeling requirements. The major non-compliances were incorrect nutrition label (22.3%) and the product label did not clearly indicate that it contained mycelium (19.4%). In the area of GHP, the major non-compliances were the employees were not subjected to health checks at least once a year (62.5%) and poor food additives management (43.8%). The results of this study had been reported to the local health authorities who would follow up with the affected companies on the non-compliances. This study hopes to promote the self-management of local food companies which deals with Antrodia cinnamomea, hence ensuring food sanitation and safety for consumers. |
