場色序法液晶顯示器 (Field Sequential Color LCD, FSC-LCD),為一種不需使用彩色濾光片的液晶顯示器。色序型顯示器雖具有比其他的顯示技術更好的顯色特性且能大幅降低顯示器功率消耗;然而,卻存在著嚴重的色分離 (CBU)問題。現今的投影機 (DLP) 系統利用極高速 (>540 Hz/field) 的單色畫面切換來解決此問題,但當色序法應用於液晶顯示器時卻遇到了液晶反應速度不足的瓶頸因而一直無法有突破性的發展。此篇論文中提出利用多色影像於單一色場的新色序法概念,此想法不但跳脫以往只使用單色場影像之基本架構,並可大幅改善色分離現象,使場色序液晶顯示器之影像畫質可以被觀賞者接受,且操作頻率為現行液晶可達到的反應時間內 (<240 Hz/field);另外,此技術亦可同時達成低功率消耗 (<35 Watt for 32” LCD-TV) 及高動態對比度 (~6,500 : 1)之新型綠色節能高畫質顯示技術,因而此論文的構想與成果將有可能使未來液晶電視轉成免彩色濾光片且具高畫質、低耗能之顯示架構。 |

A Field Sequential Color LCD (FSC-LCD) is a kind of LCD withoutcolor filter. An FSC-LCD has better image quality compared to that of theconventional LCD and can reduce power consumption effectively, however,it has a serious problem called “color breakup” (CBU). The present DLPproject utilizes a signal-color field with a high field rate (>540 Hz) to solvethe color breakup issue, but this method cannot be applied to the LCD becauseof the limitation of LC response time. Thus, the FSC-LCD has notbecome a commercial display yet. In this paper, Stencil Field SequentialColor (Stencil-FSC) is proposed, and we first utilize a “multi-color field”instead of a conventional “signal-color field” in the color sequence display.The Stencil-FSC method not only can suppress CBU effectively but alsocan be realized on LCDs by present LC techniques, such as OCB mode LC.Moreover, the method can achieve the a novel green display with ultra-lowpower consumption (<35 Watt for 32” LCD-TV) and high contrast ratio(~6500:1). Consequently, the concept and the results of the paper maycomplete a next generation color filter less display with high image qualityand ultra-low power consumption. |
