This paper describes a low voltage piezoelectric actuated variablefocus plane-convex liquid lens. A nickel piezoelectric piece, which hasgood ductility, was used. To enhance the driving voltage efficiency, ahollow plastic sheet, 16 mm long, 15 mm wide and 0.11 mm thick wasbonded onto the nickel piezoelectric piece. The hollow plastic sheet withinner diameter 9 mm reduces to 1/3 the driving voltage compared to themodule without the plastic sheet. With driving voltage 0~60 V, the liquidvariable focus lens achieves 12~31 mm focal distances range variation.Further investigation was carried out using a convex lens made of UVcuring glue with high transmittance and low cost formed in the lens cavity.Combining UV curing glue convex lens and variable focus lens, the focaldistances ranged between 8.3 and 24.5 mm. |
