This paper describes the determination of warning values for the measured displacement of the Fei-Tsui arch dam based on numerical analysis and field measured data. The dam-foundation rock numerical model was first developed and verified by using data from the field and experimentation. The warning values for the dam displacement were obtained as follows. First, the ten-day mean air temperatures and steady-state monthly water temperatures in a year for a specific reservoir level were determined, followed by the establishment of the steady-state temperature distribution in the dam body. Second, a static dam displacement analysis was performed using ABAQUS with the dam-foundation rock model and the monthly temperature distribution of the dam body to obtain the displacement of the dam for each month. The maximum and minimum values among the displacements for all the months in a year were chosen respectively as the warning upper and lower limits, i.e., the warning values, for the reservoir level. By repeating the above procedures for all the reservoir levels considered, a set of warning values for the measured displacement of the dam was obtained. In the final part of the paper, the features and functions of the ”Fei-Tsui arch dam displacement exhibition and warning value inquiry system” are briefly introduced. |
