This study aims at producing an optimal cutting-parameter design fora heavy cutting process for side milling using the Taguchi method withfuzzy logic. The workpieces material is SUS304 stainless steel. The majorperformance indexes chosen to evaluate the cutting process are tool lifeand metal removal rate. The results are closely correlated with cutting parameterssuch as spindle speed, feed per tooth, radial depth of cut, andaxial depth of cut. Optimization of cutting parameters can be achieved byapplying the Taguchi method with fuzzy logic associated with the multipleperformance characteristics. The results of confirmation experimentsreveal that the Taguchi method with fuzzy logic can effectively reveal theoptimal combination of cutting parameters and can effectively improvecutting performance in a heavy cutting process for side milling. |
