This research aims at developing a semi-automatic PC-based toolgrinder to provide a resharpening process for end mills. Conventionally,end mills are resharpened manually to insure satisfactory quality. Toachieve this goal, technicians must possess abundant knowledge and reliableskills. Instead of using manual work, this paper illustrates a newtwo-axis tool grinder with semi-automatic, semi-intelligent PC-Based controlto sharpen end mills. Basically, a servo-motor is utilized to controlmovements along both A and X axes. The procedures for the resharpeningprocess are written as a computer program that is installed in a PC-basedcontroller. The results of performance tests show that the developed grindercan significantly improve the quality and stability of workpieces, and, inaddition, resharpening tools becomes more simple and easy. |
