Many factors such as transmission ratio, noise and strength are considered in gear designs. According to need, gear designers determine pressure angle, long and short addendum, root fillet and tip modification. For production of small-lot but diverse-design gear production, it is impossible for gear manufacturers to purchase various gear cutting tools and gear production machines based on cost considerations. Even a single cutting tool is very expensive. In this paper, CAD/CAM methods combined with a CNC machine center and ordinary cutting tools were employed to develop a new flexible manufacturing technique to meet the demands of small-lot but diverse-design gear production. Using this new technique increases the efficiency of small-lot but diverse-design gear production and reduces the cost of gear production. |
