Bloodstream infections (BSIs) are common in patients in nephrologywards, and result in prolonged hospitalization, increased medical expenses, and increased risk of mortality. This study aimed to investigate the risk factorsand predictors of mortality of patients with BSIs. This retrospective study wasperformed in the nephrology ward from 2007 to 2013, and epidemiologicalinvestigations were conducted. The chi-square or Fisher exact test was used forcategorical data; the Mann-Whitney U test, for data with nonnormal distribution;and logistic regression analysis, for assessing risk factors and predictors ofmortality. In the study, 309 patients with BSIs were included. The density ofBSI was decreased from 2.46 to 1.97 per 1000 patient-days. Staphylococcusaureus was the most common causative organism. The overall mortality ratewas 32%, and the 30-day all-death mortality rate was 70.7%. On the logisticregression analysis, age, length of hospital stay, shock, use of antibiotics, andcontinuous venovenous hemofiltration were identified as independent predictorsof mortality. |
