The purpose of this study was to explore how adults with visual impairment overcome obstacles in the process of career development with the perspective of resilience. In-depth interviews with five adults with visual impairment were conducted to collect data on their experience of career development. The result showed adults with visual impairment had great difficulty in finding a career to fit their interest and obtaining self-realization through present career. Therefore, adults with visual impairment were committed to rediscover their career goals and renew their career plan. The resilience capacities of adults with visual impairment could be divided into three categories: multiple positive psychological capital, physical health, and spirituality. These three categories interacted with each other and had different effect on promoting positive career development of adults with visual impairment. In addition, the actions of adults with visual impairment to achieve resilience included consistent self-management and lifelong learning, which helped them shift their own weaknesses and facilitated adaptation to challenges imposed by changing labor market. |
