本文旨在省思臺灣地區推動已九年的特色學校計畫的挑戰，並提出其前瞻性發展建議。首先，簡析特色學校推動九年的成效，包括：第一、讓學校創增特色競爭力，讓學生增加欣賞表現與創新力；第二、最大效益為透過活化校園空間，活化課程、教學與學習；第三、重視標竿學習、參訪交流及品牌行銷，方案獲各方高度認同；第四、促進資源共享、在地化特色學習、產業活化及社區營造；第五、特色經營成效佳，能提升學生多元智能，獲家長高肯定。其次，省思臺灣地區特色學校計畫的挑戰，包括：第一、升學主義等無形宰制待解構，卓越特色風潮尚待持續鼓動；第二、盲點困境待破解，開創性與激勵性相關作為仍待加速推動；第三、決策、專案、資源、輔導與配套等系統有待發揮整合綜效；第四、大型、系統整合、未來與實用的特色學校發展研究待加強。最後，提出臺灣地區特色學校計畫發展的前瞻性建議。
