Using the framework of Andre Lefevere’s theoretical concept of translation andMichael Cronin’s opinion towards translational politics, this paper explores the influenceof governmental patronage on the translation of Taiwan literature into foreign languagesvia analyzing the publication of Bibliographical Synopses of Translated Taiwan Literature(1990-2011).As a result of this study, the translated Taiwan literature in different languages hasits own characteristics. Most of the translators in English, Japanese, and Korean fieldsare from academics; translators in other languages select works with a favor-orientedway. In order to enhance the competitiveness of Taiwan cultures, government should invitethe experts of translation and marketing to join this task, and should continuouslyinvest enough manpower and funds to support and to promote the translation of TaiwanLiterature. |
