新聞‧小說‧歌仔冊──「台南運河奇案」原始事件及據其改編的通俗文學作品新論

News, Novel, and Ballads: New Vision of the Origination of “Case of Tainan Canal” and its Adaptations for Popular Literature

有關「台南運河奇案」的原始事件，當事人姓名、發生時間向來眾說紛紜。例如，事件發生的時間點就有三種不同說法：1.台灣文獻研究的前輩專家盧嘉興（1968）說是在1927年。2.1987年3、4月間完成的鉛印本《中國戲曲志．福建卷》下冊，記錄「台南運河奇案」被改編為歌仔戲演出的情況時，則將事件發生時間繫於1932年。3.2006年，台南市文化基金會為慶祝台南運河開通八十週年，特製「台南運河80」專題報導，專題中有陳俊傑〈運河追想曲〉一文，訪問「熟稔台南市古往今來大小事的木瓜叔叔—蔡木山先生」另指出，那是發生在1937年的事。對照各家說法，「台南運河奇案」發生的時間竟有1927年、1932年、1937年等橫跨十年之久的落差。事實上，1927年、1932年、1937年，皆非「台南運河奇案」原始事件真正的時間！本文首先將根據最新發現的1930年代報紙新聞，徹底釐清這些長期以來莫衷一是、含糊不清而尚待解決的基本問題。此外，在「台南運河奇案」發生當時，詩人騷客感傷於紅顏薄命，留下了數首吟風弄月之作，這些詩作也間接地傳達出不少關於「台南運河奇案」原始事件的重要訊息，十分耐人尋味。「台南運河奇案」不僅曾經被改拍成電影，據此事件改編的通俗文學作品更是值得我們深究，包括「編為『運河奇案』的歌謠，風行全省」且版本繁多的民間說唱歌仔冊，以及吳漫沙（1912-2005）過去鮮少為人注意的小說《運河殉情記》（1956）。是以本文將再介紹小說《運河殉情記》，並考察改編「台南運河奇案」之五種不同版本的歌仔冊的內容與演變，特別是新發現之台中瑞成書局《運河奇案新歌》（上下本，1935年1月），進一步析論歌仔冊與小說《運河殉情記》這兩種通俗文學作品彼此之間相互影響的密切關係。

With regard to the origination of “Case of Tainan Canal”, the names of the maincharacters and the occurring time are all along controversial. For example, the occurringtime can be in 1927, 1932, or 1937, these three different claims mainly. Actually, theyare all not the real occurring time of the origination of “Case of Tainan Canal”. Thispaper will first base on the related reports of Taiwan Daily News in 1930s to thoroughlysolve these basic questions. In addition, when “Case of Tainan Canal” happened, therewere some poems written, these can be also used to explore the origination of “Case ofTainan Canal”, really fascinating.Moreover, the popular literature adapted from “Case of Tainan Canal” is evenworthier to study, including a great sum of different editions of Taiwanese Ballads,and “Love suicide at Tainan Canal”(1956), the unpopular novel written by Wu, Mansha(1912~2005). Therefore, this paper will re-examine the content and developmentof the various ballads adapted from “Case of Tainan Canal”, and analyse the relationbetween ballads and novels, the two types of popular literature.
