In contrast to Japanese Manga, one of the most active cultural industries, the Manga in Taiwanis still a side issue of cultural industries. Even though the Taiwan government has recently expendedconsiderable effort in promoting creative industries, obvious flaws exist in its policy. Most of theflaws have been caused by overlooking the fundamental structure of everyday life in the goal ofdeveloping creative cultural industries. Therefore, the government’s policy often does not fitpractical situations well.Few studies have adopted the approach of everyday life which this paper has taken todetermine the market size of cultural industries and developmental possibility. This paper proposesthat possible development of the Manga industry in Taiwan cannot be based on governmentpromotion policy. The most important government action to take is to establish an adequateenvironment to promote charming Manga works, which could capture the interest of most people inTaiwan. Therefore, creating a legitimate role for Manga in everyday life is the first step towarddeveloping Manga industries in Taiwan. Finally, to integrating fan-group formation andmulti-cultural consumption and dialog in everyday life would serve as developmental mechanismsfor Manga industries in Taiwan. |
