This paper aims at proposing the process of using GIS and address geocoding to enhance the capability of solving urban transportation problems such as traffic accident and parking problems. The solutions to these problems include the identification of the accident-prone location, the qualification of parking space for car-ownership and the allocation of new parking lots. For each solution, we describe and discuss its process with flow diagrams and procedure statements. Besides, several maps are generated separately for illustration of the thematic data, feasible region and service isoquants for the certain solution. At last, The process for each solution is reviewed in terms of (1) data integration, (2) easy manipulation, (3) spatial analysis, (4) alternatives' evaluation, and (5) graphic illustration to justify the advantage of using GIS to support solving urban transportation problems. |
