People with drug abuse and their families are facing complex and deep life difficulties. More and more social workers involved in drug abuse related issues. There are many service delivery systems including child welfare, medical care, schools, mental health, family services, criminal justice and domestic violence. Are social workers ready for the preparations to solve the social problems of drug abuse? The actual challenges include the insufficient social work education and training programs, and the negative attitudes of social workers to these who are suffered and stigmatized. These reasons might cause involuntary social workers and the involuntary service receivers. The more social workers understand issues of drug abuse, the more people with drug abuse will be accepted and encouraged. This paper aims to review the literatures in order to discuss the roles, the service models, and the future professional developments for social workers and people with drug abuse. Furthermore, the author hopes to raise awareness of social work practitioners and have more engagements in solving the problems that people with drug abuse might develop. |
