In this paper, the semantic features that the bases attached to the suffix '-teki” should have are called the semantic constraints of the bases of “-teki”, and the aim of this paper is to clarify the semantic constraints of the bases of “-teki”. There are two meanings of “-teki” which are “to inherit attribute(s)” and “relating something to”, and in this paper the constraints of the bases attaching “-teki” with the meaning “to inherit attribute(s)” will be clarified. When the bases are denoting abstract concepts, those bases should satisfy the constraints that “having plural categorical meanings”, and when the bases are denoting concrete concepts, those bases should satisfy the constraints that “having the salient feature(s) distinguishing other concepts”. Moreover, there are bases attaching “-teki” with both the meaning “to inherit attribute(s)” and the meaning “relating something to”, but those bases are with the specialization of meaning and thus have to take them as the exceptions of the constraints and have to describe them in other way. |
