In the “Letter to Wang Bing-bu", Su Shi introduced theory of horse appraisal in the beginning to elaborate the relationship between horse appraisal and equestrian skills. Such relationship was associated with appraisal of talent. Then, he changed the subject to brief his background and experience, as well as imply his admiration for Wang Bingbu and desire for a proper introduction. Lastly, Su demonstrated self-confidence and hinted Wang to grasp the chance lest he would feel regret for letting the chance go. The whole letter was written in a moderate manner, expressing due demeanor. From the perspective of article rhetoric, the present study explored the writing skills and rhetoric adopted in the “Letter to Wang Bing-bu". |
