Low dose pulse methotrexate (MTX) has become a popular disease modified anti-rheumatic drug for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Although this regimen is effective and relatively safe for the treatment of RA, some severe complications may occur occasionally. Here, we describe two patients with RA, one is a 74-year-old female with 10-year history of diseaese, and the other is a 47-year-old diabetic woman with 8-year history of disease. They both developed severe pancytopenia after taking only 7.5mg MTX. We will review the literature and discuss the potential risk factors for this complication. |
