Hemarthrosis is mostly due to trauma of the joint, which is commonly found in sports injuries. An injury of the joint caused by a quack practice may not be uncommon, but it is rarely, if ever, reported. A 58-year-old male with underlying osteoarthrosis developing hemarthrosis of the right knee joint after pushing- pinching massage therapy by an herbal practitioner was reported. Other possible causes of hemarthrosis were ruled out during the hospitalization before a history of such manipulation was elicited. A follow-up examination done four months later disclosed no permanent consequence of the trauma. Diseases other than osteoarthrosis were not found. It is thought that pushing-pinching massage therapy to a joint of arthrosis given by an absentminded practitioner does not go without risk. It is also suggested that the practice of therapeutic massage should be licensed for the interest of public health. |
