Temple History is a history book recording the deeds of Gods and temples. Temple History will be handed down along with the reputation of temples and Gods. During the compilation of Temple History, compilers and authors have to carefully and comprehensively collect relevant information. The contents structure of Temple History is particularly the backbone of the book, so it should be properly planned. Based on the analysis on 30 Temple History books in Taiwan, this study investigated the problems concerning contents structure in order to provide readers and those who are interested in compiling Temple History a direction for reference. In addition, this study also intends to analyze the functions of Temple History in Taiwan to enable readers to understand that the content and meanings of Temple History in Taiwan actually involve the issues concerning education, history, anthropology, religious studies, architecture, aesthetics and literature. Temple History is a treasure house of knowledge. It is necessary to experience and read it with a more proactive attitude, in order to absorb ancestors' wisdom and more diversified knowledge. In addition to using secondary data analysis methods to seek information that can be used as reference and applied, this study also intends to use historical comparative method to compare the Temple History compiled before the Qing Dynasty with that compiled in modern Taiwan. It is hoped that the longitudinal comparison can reflect the differences between them and their pros and cons. Moreover, the advantages of ancestors can be used in the compilation of Temple History in Taiwan. |
