日治時期臺灣花柳業問題（1895-1945）

The Studies of Gay Quarters in the Period of Japanese Colonization in Taiwan

花柳業是一個古老的色情行業，她既是一種社會現象，也是一種歷史現象，更是重要的社會問題。日治時期殖民政府因導入日本本土的娼妓管理制度，與推展臺灣經濟發展之故，以致使臺灣花柳業出現了前所未有的繁榮景象，從業女子的人數亦逐年增多。歷來學術界對於日治時期臺灣花柳業問題的研究極少，本文為彌補此一研究課題的不足，故利用比較充分的官方檔案、報紙雜誌、統計資料，試就：一、臺灣花柳業的起源與發展、二、日治時期臺灣花柳業法令、三、殖民政府取締實況、四、日治時期臺灣花柳業經營方式、五、日治時期臺灣花柳業與社會問題等項目，做一比較實證性與深入性的分析。

The gay quarters, 'sex industry' is an old erotic business. It is a social and historical phenomena and it is an important social problem. During the period of Japanese colonization in Taiwan (1895-1945), due to the transforming of Japanese prostitution regulations and for the economic development of Taiwan, gay quarters were flourished and widely spread; the number of the prostitutes increased tremendously. Although there were so many problems caused by the gay quarter, there are not many scholarly studies on the issue. This paper thus intends to fill up the gap. In order to get a whole picture of this issue, we use many archives, newspapers, and statistics. This paper is divided into five sections. In the first section, we discuss the origins and development of Taiwan gay quarters. Section two discusses the rules and regulations of the governing gay quarters during the Japanese colonization in Taiwan. The third section describes how the Japanese government tried to stamp out the prostitutes in Taiwan. In the forth section, we discuss the management of Taiwan gay quarters, and the final section, we analyze the social problems and the condition of gay quarters during the Japanese colonization in Taiwan, make a further study on the issues of gay quarters in Taiwan.
