Today’s higher education has become completely secularized. As a result, general education has become an important way to cultivate the morality of citizens. However, those familiar with higher education know that the current general education system could not fulfill this ideal. This has become an open secret that no one is willing to speak up about. After all, no one wishes to be held accountable for the consequences, since the accomplishment of this ideal relies on educators who are themselves role models of the values they preach, namely, the reawakening of the sacredness of human nature. However, as there has long been a divorce between the morality and expertise of college professors in secularized universities, it would require a significant life change for the professors to marry these two strands again. Without the help of practical religious wisdom, such life changes would be difficult to implement or temporary, since secularized individuals are easily shaken. As such, this paper intends to look at how practical religious wisdom could enhance the value of general education. It is hoped that this paper would invite further discussion and implementation. |
