Purpose: The research was to explore the factors and indexes that influenced how therapists considered about concluding a case after community-based treatment on sexual offenders. Based on analyzing the factors, the researcher further generalized the indexes for closing a case. Methods: Semi-interviewed was used to interview twelve therapists whom were recommended by eleven county or city centers for prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault and were with experienced therapeutic treatments for sexual offenders. The interview data were analyzed with thematic analysis. Results: Results showed seven factors would influence the therapists when deciding to close a treatment. They were (1) changes of sexual offender ’internal thinking and cognition, (2) changes of sexual offender’s external behaviors, (3) support of the resourcefrom ecological system, (4) conditions of sexual offender’s psychological trait, mental illness, drug and sexual addiction, (5) operations of monitoring sexual offender system, (6) scores of evaluation scales, and (7) sexual offender assessment committee’s considerations. Conclusions: seven factors were divided into four indexes: (1) offender’s positive changes, (2) ecology system’s monitor and support, (3) low scores on the risk of recidivism scales, (4) approval of the of committee. |
