The Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) is one of the most famous cultural attractions in the world. It presents many South Pacific nation's cultures, including recreated villages, and exhibits and activities from many nations. Tourists from all around the world visit PCC and learn about Polynesian culture, such as Samoa, Aotearoa (Maori New Zealand), Fiji, Hawai‘i, Tahiti, Tonga and Rapa Nui (Easter Island). PCC provides a positive role model and the concept of a model culture for the Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village in Nantou County and the Taiwan Indigenous People Culture Park in Pindong County of Taiwan; both institutes aim to present the cultures of indigenous peoples of Taiwan to the world. This report summarizes my field feasibility research at PCC and Hamilton Library of the University of Hawaii at Manoa during February and March of 2014; it also discusses about guest activities from my observation during the field work. The aim of my research is to understand how the Mormons created, constructed, presented and managed PCC. |
