University museums represent a milestone of the development of museums in Taiwan, and signify the importance of creating an environment for learning that values humanity and culture. University museums in Taiwan encounter adversities such as, short supply of human resource and financial resource, and lack of allocation of educational and collection resource. Therefore, a good managerial strategy becomes an indispensable means for university museums to be well-operated. The key factors for good management include organization mission, structure, human resource management, finance management, functional management and marketing. On the other hand, university museums of the new generation carry new missions and goals. Thus, fund-raising and resource integration are crucial to their success. By studying different university museums in foreign countries, we can observe and learn about their types and manners of resource integration, management, and fund-raising. This article reviews literature about management and operational strategies of university museums, and explores three different cases of resource integration for university museums. We also compare the Art Museum of National Taiwan University of Arts with university museums in other countries in aspects such as, current operation, management, and resource integration. Finally, this article concludes with several suggestions about resource integration and management for university museums in Taiwan. |
