From the perspective of social enterprises, this research aimed to investigate the cooperative relationship between museums and other external organizations. We chose the Taipei County Yingge Ceramics Museum as the case of our study, and used the following methods of data collection: the analysis of archived data, participant observations, and qualitative interviews. Our findings concluded that, first of all, the cooperative relationship between museums and external organizations typically took up one of the following three forms: connection, coordination, and integration which depended largely on the availability of resources, the personal relationship of the curators(or the directors), and the public image of the museums. In addition, we also found out that, since the cooperative relationship was built upon activities, it also inherited the dynamic nature from the organizational activities. The forms of cooperative partners and cooperative relationships varied in different developmental stages of the museums. Based on these findings, we recommended an evaluative framework, grounded in economic value, social value, entrepreneurship, and local development, to help the managements of museums choose the proper forms and evaluate the efficiency of cooperation. |
