In explaining the structure of contemporary society, French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu uses field, habitus, capital and other concepts to discuss the social space. Field is a kind of multidimensional space that is composed by various social statuses, and the movers inside use their habitus and capital power to decide their social statuses and reconstruct field with different structure and atmosphere. This article will use Bourdieu's theory of mutual influences between habitus and social field to observe the shifting of fields along with change in time and space in Huang Chun-ming's novels. The author hopes to analyze several social spaces as presented in Huang's novels, and also to compare the mutual influences between individuals' habitus and outside environment. |
