CCS Symposium
The Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) invited visiting scholar Valentin Golovachev to present papers at a symposium held on April 11, 2008. Vladmir Maliavin, director of the Institute of Russian and Slavic Studies at Tamkang University, chaired the symposium.
Mr. Golovachev, a CCS scholarship recipient and researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies under the Russian Academy of Science, delivered a paper in Chinese on the topic of 'Taiwan in the New Century: Symbolism, Ceremony and Prejudice in Transformation.' The paper analyzed recent political changes in Taiwan.
Mr. Golovachev studies the history of the Wei, Jin and Northern and Southern Dynasties periods. He has also served as a presenter for the Russian language broadcasts of Radio Taiwan International. Mr. Golovachev is also a long-time follower of the progress of ethnic policy and identification in Taiwan, as well as election change in Taiwan. In his paper he noted that in 2000, the Republic of China achieved its first peaceful transition of ruling political party. |
