Books Donated to Libraries in Remote Regions

Some 71 libraries in remote and offshore island areas of Taiwan received donations of books from the Ministry of Education last year as part of a program to enrich the reading material available to young people in these areas and strengthen the role of libraries as places of learning. In order to maximize the benefits of the program, the Ministry entrusted the NCL to host a donation ceremony and a seminar on the educational use of books on April 24, in conjunction with a series of parent-children learning activities. Librarians from the 71 recipient libraries attended the seminar along with representatives of social education centers in Hsinchu, Changhua, Tainan and Taitung, NCL Taiwan Branch, and National Taichung Library.
