The NCL was officially authorized to use the ninth edition of the Classification Scheme for Chinese Libraries at a ceremony held at the library on September 21. The latest edition was produced by Lai Yung-hsiang (賴永祥), a former professor of National Taiwan University and director of the school's Library and Information Science Department.
Prof. Lai produced the first edition of the classification scheme in 1964. Since that time, this scheme has been widely used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore, and other regions with Chinese communities. It has served as an important reference in the classification work of domestic libraries and is widely used as the basis for cataloging in publication (CIP). Moreover, cataloging and query of information on the NBINet are organized according to the classification scheme. |
