On May 29, the NCL and Flysheet Enterprises kicked off a series of symposiums on Chinese cataloging CDROMs and the OCLC system. The event attracted strong turnouts at its stops around the island, including Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung.
The meeting agenda focused on the development and current status of the three CD-ROM titles comprising the NCL's Chinese cataloguing system: SinoCat, SinoCip, and SinoBook.
SinoCat is a database with 542,580 bibliographies on general books, government publications, academic reports, serial publications (periodicals and newspapers), audio-visual resources, musical scores, and computer files. About 25,000 records are added to new editions, which are released every four months. The system is used primarily as a cataloging and acquisition tool. |
